Ahmed Mourad

Author and screenwriter

Ahmed Mourad is a prominent author and screenwriter of fiction and non-fiction. He graduated first in the film department at the Egyptian Higher Institute of Cinema, where his final project films, "The Wanderers", "Three Papers", and "On the Seventh Day" won prizes at festivals in the UK, France, and Ukraine. He started his writing career in 2007 by publishing his first novel, Vertigo, which received critical and commercial success. It was also made into a television series in 2012. The success of his first novel led Mourad to publish numerous works, including The Blue Elephant in 2012, his most successful novel and the best-selling novel in Egypt was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (the ‘Arabic Booker’) in 2014. The novel received unanimous positive reviews and was adapted into a film directed by Marwan Hamed, which later turned into a movie franchise that Mourad wrote the script for, with its third installment scheduled for release in 2023. Mourad is also the author of "Land of God" (2016), "Deer Hunting Season" (2017), "Locanda Bir Al-Watawit" (2020) and "Murder for Amateurs" (2022). His works have been translated into English, Italian, and German.
