Beginning as an assistant director under the mentorship of the esteemed Sherif Arafa, Hamed took his initial steps into the cinematic realm with the short film " Lilly." However, it was in 2006 that he made his mark in the industry, directing his first feature film, "The Yacoubian Building," which boasted the largest budget in Egyptian cinema history at the time. The film, starring luminaries such as Adel Imam, garnered immense success, marking a pivotal moment in Hamed's career. Subsequent endeavors, including "The Blue Elephant" films, garnered both critical acclaim and unprecedented box office success. His latest cinematic venture, " Kira & El Gin," adapted from Ahmed Murad’s renowned novel, surpassed expectations, grossing over EGP 118 million.
Hamed's contributions to the Egyptian and Arab film industries were acknowledged with the prestigious 2023 Career Achievement Award at El Gouna Film Festival. Additionally, Hamed has been chosen over the years to serve on the juries of several film festivals due to his technical expertise and track record for excellence. In 2018, he and his father were honored by America Abroad Media (AAM) in Washington.
Born in 1977, Marwan Hamed is the scion of legendary author Wahid Hamed and distinguished journalist Zainab Suwaidan. Hamed graduated from Higher Institute of Cinemain 1999.
